Plan of Premises
The plan of premises is a procedure that must be completed by a SOCO upon arrival of the scene, this is included within the initial scene assessment. The plan of premises is a sketch that is drawn of the scene in brief detail so it can be identified where everything was located within the scene, it can located where windows where and where the evidence was located etc. By effectively completing the sketch of the scene this will ensure that officers who weren't located at the scene can build a pictured image of what happened and how the scene looked upon approach. The plan of premises shows that the SOCO's approached the scene correctly and took every angle of the scene into consideration. This procedure can lead to valid evidence collection as when being completed it will give the SOCO and insight of where the evidence is located and how it was left at the scene, this is an advantage for when the SOCO begins evidence collection as they will already know where potential sufficient evidence has been left.
Plan of Premises within the Soham Murders
Within the Soham murders a plan of premises was not completed due to the crime scene being located in such an open environment a birds eye view of the scene was photographed for further reference. The bodied of the individuals where found near enough two weeks after the girls disappearance which meant the police had to act upon this quickly and didn't complete all procedures effectively.
