Identifying Patterns and Links
Within this stage all stages are linked together, the police review what they have been given by the analyst in order to ensure they right decisions are being made or if the case needs to be reviewed again. This stage can take place many times within any given case, this can occur when no leads match the suspect so they have to continue a search for another. This stage is vital to come after the research and analysis of facts as without both of them being conducted this means there would be no information to identify and patterns and links between. This is an important stage as it connects all evidence and witness statements to the suspects which mean’s an arrest can be made, without the stage being taken through there may be no substantial evidence to be held up in court to help make an arrest as none will have been analysed and matched to the suspect. Specific pieces of evidence linking the suspect to the case are prioritized to ensure all is dealt with and documented in the correct manner.
Other agencies can play a part in identifying the patterns and links. Other police forces may help in the inquiry after this stage and give their opinion on whether or not the police are making the right decision. Other police forces may also give back ground information on each of the suspects if they have currently lived in the community the police force run. Victim support may also be used within this procedure as they ensure the victim is getting all the support needed so they will finally be able to get there life back on track if it has been a serious offence towards them, other agencies may also be used these being youth offending teams and the parole board. This is a very important stage as it enables the police to know that what they’re doing is right, and that they have substantial evidence to make an arrest.

The Soham Murders and Identifying Patterns and Links
Within the stage of gathering and analyzing facts in the Soham Murders the police discovered they believed it wasn’t the two girls in the car that where spotted by Ian Webster. Webster was only able to identify the color of one of the children hair which he described as "brown" (Ian Webster 2002) which wasn’t much evidence to the case as it’s a common hair color. When the police searched into Jessica’s phone and the last connections the phone had made before it had been shut down there was a phone call made at approximately six pm. The analyst looked into the evidence from the case and decided this couldn’t have been the girls that Ian Webster had seen they linked the last time the phone was used and the time of death predicted through pathology results, which both came back around six pm. This means as Ian said the timing was seven pm this couldn’t have been the girls as they would not have been alive. The police also questioned two men and made arrest due to them “refusing to cooperate” (Evening Standard 2012) with the investigation of the missing girls although there was no evidence to keep the two men so the police let them go. This stage didn't go in logical order as the police investigated the sighting of Ian Webster before gathering and analysing all evidence as this was all the evidence they had due to it being an abduction and them not knowing the were about's of the girls.
